RACER Interlibrary Loan Service
allows current University of Windsor faculty, staff, and students to request material not available in Leddy from other libraries
To do so either,
- choose blank request form (from left side menu), once logged in
Or
- search all Ontario university library catalogues simultaneously
and then click an item's Get It! link to automatically fill out a request form
While items generally take 7 to 10 working days to arrive, requests from other countries may take several weeks and sometimes several months.
There is generally no cost to faculty, graduate or undergraduate students to use RACER
Undergraduates can order books from Canadian libraries at no cost; books from non-Canadian locations cost $10 each
External borrowers (alumni, etc.) are not eligible to use the University of Windsor's RACER Interlibrary Loan Service.
Notification
- all patrons will be notified via e-mail, or can check the status of their request using the RACER system.
Pick-up
All patrons will be required to present a valid Leddy Library card when picking up materials.
Any photocopy and loan charges must be paid when material is picked up.
For Undergraduate Students, all materials will be held at the Library's Circulation Desk.
For Faculty, Graduate Students and Staff:
- journal articles/photocopies will be routed to your department through campus mail
- books and other loaned materials will be held at the Library's Circulation Desk
Returning materials
- return materials to the Library's Circulation Desk
- do not return material to the Interlibrary Loans Office
Rush Service
- there is a $15 surcharge that applies to all patrons for rush journal articles/photocopied materials
- there is no rush service available for books/loaned materials.
Charges
- interlibrary loan/document delivery requests for faculty, graduate students and staff are subsidised by the library up to $25 (excluding rush charges and additional surcharges/fees)
- if charges will exceed the subsidy, Interlibrary Loan staff will contact the patron before the material is ordered to confirm that the patron still wants to place the order and is willing to pay the difference
- all additional charges/fees must be paid when material is picked up at the Library's Circulation Desk.
Additional charges and fees
NOTE: Some libraries in Canada and most American libraries charge an additional service fee for the loan of the material. These fees can range from $5.00 to $20.00 from Canadian libraries and from $15.00 to $30.00 from US libraries.
If extra charges or surcharges are levied by the lending library or other vendor, you will be notified and asked to agree to payment of these extraordinary costs before the request is sent.
Fines
Patrons must pay charges incurred whether item is used or not. This means that if an ILL request is made but the item is not picked up and the charge for the ILL is not paid, then the charges will be added to the patron's library account as an overdue charge. Interlibrary loan material is subject to the same fine policy as Leddy Library materials. All fines and charges will be added to patron's library account.
