Festival displays multicultural harmony
The CAW Student Centre Commons was filled with flags, food, and fun yesterday as the Multicultural Festival provided an occasion to celebrate the diversity of the campus community.
A parade of flags saw marchers from around the world bearing the standard of their countries, performers took to the stage to demonstrate traditional dance and music, and booths exhibited information and cultural artifacts.
Coordinator Miriam Villamil, a third-year law student, said she was pleased with the turnout in the first year the event was organized by students.
"We have a lot of different groups represented here," she said. "We'll build on this success to make next year's festival even better."
Renee Taylor set up a booth on Jamaica, her parents' homeland.
"I just wanted to get involved," said the political science and French major. "I vow that as long as I'm here, I will share my heritage with others."
