Agreement encourages Saudi graduate studies

Officials from the Saudi Arabian Cultural Bureau in Canada were on campus Friday to sign a memorandum of understanding to promote the placement of Saudi students in master's and doctoral programs.

Neil Gold, UWindsor vice-president, international, welcomed Cultural Attache Faisal Mohammad Al-Mohanna Abaalkhail and Yeihya Torkey R. Alkhazraj, Director of Academic Relations with the Saudi Arabian Cultural Bureau, to a welcoming event celebrating an expanding relationship with the Saudi government and its graduate students.

"It is with a great spirit of collaboration that we are here today," said President Alan Wildeman. "We trust that we will continue to make strides in this area and that the graduate student experience for these students will be the best it can be."

Dr. Abaalkhail told the gathering that the agreement is the right step forward in ensuring that Saudi students fully participate in an emerging international culture and that they will bring skills learned during their Canadian studies to their home country and communities.

Abaalkhail said Saudi students will be encouraged to spend time learning about the culture of their host country in addition to their formal studies.

"Our students will have an opportunity to see the vivid mosaic of the entire experience of Canada," he said.
