Admission Procedure
Application to Graduate Studies in the Department of Physics, University of Windsor

A complete application consists of the following pieces of information. Please ensure that all materials are sent to:

Recommended deadline for completed applications are:

July 1 for September admissionNovember 1 for January admission
March 1 for May admission

These deadlines are existing to allow the university enough time to make a decision regarding the application. Student Visa candidates should attempt to submit their documents six months in advance of their planned enrolment date. Every attempt will be made to process applications not making these dates.

A complete application consists of:

1.Application for Admission Form
Please fill in all parts of this online form.
2.Application Fee
A cheque, money order, or bank draft made payable to the Ontario Universities Application Centre in the amount of $55 Canadian must be forwarded to the University of Windsor. Be sure to print your name clearly on the back of the cheque, bank draft, or money order. Payment by credit card can be made online at the same time that the application is completed.
3.Confidential Report Forms (two)
These should be sent directly to the above stated address; reports sent directly to you by the reporting persons and forwarded to us in confidentiality in a sealed envelope are also valid.
4.Official Transcripts
Two official transcripts of all undergraduate and graduate work from all colleges and universities attended should be sent to the above stated address directly by the college or university concerned. Transcripts sent to you by the institution and forwarded directly to the above address in confidentiality in a sealed envelope are acceptable. An average of B is the minimum for admission into the graduate program.
5.Graduate Records Examination (GRE)
Applicants are required to write the Graduate Records Examination Physics Subject Test administered by the Educational Testing Service. Official scores must be forwarded directly to the above address by the testing centre.
6.For applicants whose native language is not English, a satisfactory score on an English proficiency test administered by one of the following institutions.

a)The Educational Testing Service, Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) The minimum acceptable score is 83. or IELTS minimum acceptable score is 6.5
b)The English Language Institute of the University of Michigan, Michigan English Language Assessment Battery (MELAB): to make arrangements, contact the English Language Institute of the University of Michigan, testing and Certification, North University Building, Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA, 48109. The minimum acceptable score is 80.
c)The Carleton Adademic English Language (CAEL) Assessment. For information contact Carleton University, Testing Unit, 215 Paterson Hall, 1125 Colonel Drive By, Ottawa, ON, Canada, K1S 5B6.
d)Some students may qualify for the University of Windsor English as a second language program. For further information contact the Director of Professional and Community Programs, Continuing Education, University of Windsor, Windsor, ON, N9B 3P4, Canada.

Official scores must be forwarded directly to the address stated above by the testing centre. An applicant who is unable to take one of these tests must present satisfactory alternative evidence of English proficiency. Consideration of alternative evidence may be requested on an exceptional basis by writing to the Executive Dean of the College of Graduate Studies and Research and presenting supporting documentation of English proficiency.

The Decision Process
A preliminary decision of admission is made by the Graduate Committee of Physics. The recommendation is forwarded to the Dean of Graduate Studies and Research; applicants will be notified of positive recommendatoins at that time. The official admission to the College of Graduate Studies and Research is by letter of offer from the Executive Dean of the College of Graduate Studies and Research.

Applicants who have not been admitted to the College of Graduate Studies of Research may upgrade their qualifications and reapply. A subsequent decision would be made on the basis of a further recommendation by the academic unit and the updated file. All documents recived become the property of the University and will not be returned.

Deferred Applications
Offers of acceptance are made for a specific term, and acceptance may be deferred for one term only. Students wishing to be considered for admission at a later date will normally be required to submit a new application and to resubmit their documents.
