CARRYING STUDIES IN THE SYSTEM INTO THE NEW TERM
The transition from term to term requires that the screening questions be re-set. It is important for researchers to verify that the screening questions and selection criteria for any ongoing studies remain correct in the new term (otherwise your study may be inadvertently recruit the wrong participants, or may be rendered 'invisible' to participants entirely).
The date upon which ethics approval expires is now entered into the system. Studies will become inactive after that date. Researchers are responsible for obtaining timely renewal of ethics approvals from the appropriate committee and submitting them to the pool.
SCREENING QUESTIONS
If you are planning to use the participant pool AND your study has received approval from the appropriate ethics committee, you may submit two to three screening questions for the participant pool registration questionnaire.
Screening questions may consist of: yes/no, true/false, categorical questions consisting of 8 or fewer categories, or Likert-type scales.
To include questions in the pool, please send them to psycpool@uwindsor.ca no later than 5pm on the date indicated above. Include in the body of the email (no attachments), the following information: (a) your questions, and (b) the date you received ethics approval for the study for which you will be making use of the pool. You must also leave a hardcopy of your questions AND the ethics review approval in the participant pool mailbox.
If approved, your questions will appear on the Participant Pool Registration page and all undergraduates registering for the pool will be asked to submit responses to your questions. You may then elect to make participation in your study contingent on responses to your screening questions. Please note that before the beginning of each term, you will have to email screening questions to the pool and you will still have to supply a copy of ethics approval when you submit screening questions and to get access to the pool. Thus, if you have submitted a question in the past, you must submit it again each term. Also, it is impossible in the on-line system to add questions to the registration page after the deadline so please pay attention to dates!
Standard questions included each term and available to all researchers are: age, gender, major, best time to telephone, year in university, # psych courses taken, ethnic group, English first language, number of languages spoken fluently, handedness, current employment (and yes, part or full time). You can only screen participants using questions that you have received ethical approval to use.
After posting your study to the system, please submit the pool cover sheet (last page of the researcher manual), and your approved ethics letter, informed consent, and approved advertisement to participants to the participant pool mailbox in CHS. Once these are reviewed, your study will be activated (usually within 72 hours), and you can begin to post sessions.
Please review the researcher manual before submitting your study to the system.
