Course Outline: Sometimes known as "chemistry beyond the molecule", this course will look at various topics in supramolecular chemistry taking examples from both organic and inorganic chemistry. The course will cover topics such as 1) concepts and definitions, 2) biological mimics, 3) cation-binding, 4) anion-binding, 5) host-guest chemistry, 6) crystal engineering, 7) self-assembly and 8) molecular devices. Emphasis will be on synthesis, structure and physical methods for characterization. Students will be responsible for organizing, presenting and evaluating lecture material.
